Trace elements in litter formation

Trace elements in above ground litterfall accumulate in the surface litter, S_{TESurfaceLitter}. From the surface litter, there is a constant flux of trace elements into the litter pool in the uppermost soil compartment, S_TELitter(z₁), calculated as:

where l_l1 is a rate coefficient defined in the Soil Organic Processes section. Note that litterfall from roots go directly the corresponding litter compartment in each soil layer.
