#### Respiration

The respiration from the litter, faeces and humus pools,
*C*_{Litter1
and 2}_{→CO2}, *C*_{Faeces}_{→}_{CO2} and *C*_{Humus}_{→}_{CO2} are based on the
estimated consumption rate of the microbes with their efficiency explicitly
taken into account:

where *f*_{e,m} and *f*_{cons,l1} are the same parameters as in eq. (6.9),
*f(CN*_{l1}*)
*and*
**f(C*_{Litter1}*)* are response
functions and *M*_{potcons} is the
potential microbial consumption as defined above. The response functions
equal unity for the respiration flux from the humus pool.

The respiration in the microbial biomass is calculated

function for abiotic influence on microbial consumption described above.
